It’s January and the Australian bonfires that have started in December are still raging with no end in sight yet. Since their start, more than 500 million animals have died and the number is growing scarily larger with every passing day.
The fires are so bad that they may have already caused the extinction of some species. The population of the cute Koalas is one of the populations that were hit the hardest, and their numbers are dwindling terrifyingly quickly.
In the middle of the inferno in Australia, some heroes have emerged. Two such heroes are 19-year-old Micah and 18-year-old Celeb that are driving around the country rescuing Koalas.
The two cousins are driving around in their cars trying to find any surviving Koalas and taking them into their cars.
The two cousins say that around 60% of all Koalas they come across are dead by the time they reach them; burned to death, unfortunately.
They added in a video shared online:
This is our little koala rescue. Just trying to collect as many live ones as we can!
It’s worth noting that the Koala population is in great danger not only because of the threat of fire, but because even the surviving Koalas are in danger because the fires will leave them with injuries and no food.
The fires in Australia have shaken the world and should be a wake-up call for governments, and many Celebrities are donating to the cause such as Chris Hemsworth who just donated $1 Million to firefighting efforts of his country.
