Dogs are wonderful creatures, they have this ability to forgive and forego of the past in a way that very few humans possess.
One such dog in Omaha was given the name Sam the Dam dog, and you would never be able to guess what happened to him by looking at the poor dog.
Sam is getting a second chance in life after he was chained in the water to a dam and left to die.
The dog was found an unknown time later with two broken legs. Now, he is getting a second chance in life, and if you met him without knowing his history, there is no way you would be able to guess it.
Some even can’t believe it. Sam is so incredibly friendly that you think he has never seen a bad day in his life, but he was on the brink of disaster when he was found, and he wouldn’t have made it if he was left there a few days more.
Valerie Blackford has always wanted to foster an animal. That’s when she met Sam, a lab mix who’s a few months old.
He loves to play fetch, specifically with her shoes, and like almost all other dogs I know, enjoys the couch.
I had no idea when I chose Sam that he had any injuries at all. He had a chain padlocked around one of his back legs, and that was chained to a piece of rebar from the dam,Angie Hospodka, founder of Nebraska’s Loving Animal Advocates.
Sam was found by a dam in Arkansas, stuck in water he couldn’t escape.
He had two broken back legs, and rescuers speculate at least one of the two legs were broken from trying to get out of the spot he was left to die in.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t his only injury. He also had a urinary tract infection, a sore on his back that left a scar, fleas, ticks, and was malnourished. The first broken leg stunted his growth, which is why he’s a little uneven.
“When we saw his little leg compared to his regular leg, we knew this dog was going to be in for some hardcore medical treatment,”Said Hospodka.
Looking at him now, you can never know it.
It blows me away that dogs and cats can be so forgiving because if I was Sam, I would probably try and bite a lot of people if it was up to me,
Sam is finally getting his treatment while spending time in a loving him, and for the first time in his life, he has bright days to look forward to.
I’ve never seen a dog just power through everything he’s been through
