In 2018, a New Jersey Woman made national headlines after claiming PetSmart groomers killed her dog. Now, after two years of legal battles, Scruffles is making national headlines again, this time, for apologizing to PetSmart for blaming them in the first place.
Owner Danielle DiNapoli claimed groomers from PetSmart in Flemington left the dog to die, and dropped her off a dead body.
The story quickly went viral, with people asking for justice for the dog. An online petition was signed by hundreds of thousands of people condemning PetSmart’s grooming practices and safety bills.
Now, she is forced to apologize publicly for blaming PetSmart.
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to PetSmart. I never should have said…that PetSmart killed Scruffles and for that I am sorry…I have since learned that other health factors caused Scruffles’ death and PetSmart did not kill my dear Scruffles.”
DiNapolo in the facebook page “Justice for Scruffles”
DiNapoli was engaged in a lengthy court battle with Petsmart since 2018, but now, she is ordered to pay PetSmart $30,000 for refusing to disclose the results of a necropsy report. The counterclaim by PetSmart also sued the woman on the basis that Scruffles actually suffered from pre-existing health conditions and has outlived the average age of her breed.
PetSmart is very happy that we have finally gotten the truth out. And that the case has been resolved. It was decided that an online apology would do the best job to set the record straight. And it also seemed to be the epicenter of where people that followed this issue continued to look.”
Attorney Thomas Clare, who represents PetSmart.
DiNapoli refused to further comment on the matter.
It should be mentioned that PetSmart was recently under fire again after a dog was crushed to death by a grooming table during a regular grooming session.
