Grey and white are some of the most calming colours out there. So are grey and white cat breeds, right?

Well, not always. Since every cat is unique, each one will be acting differently. Sure, one can write up a few characteristics based on the breed, but when it comes down to it many cats are not what you might be expecting. That also goes for grey and white cat breeds.

Himalayan

Gray and white cat breeds Himalayan
A beautiful Himalayan cat.

I think no list is complete without including this beautiful breed. Even though they aren’t strictly a grey and white cat breed, they have some of the most fluffy fur imaginable.

Being a subgroup of the Persian, they are generally known to come in fluffy white or grey fur coats.

These felines like living in relaxed households, as they are very dependent on their daily dose of cuddles. They are great inddor cats that love companionship, playing fetch and being groomed.

To be completely honest, I might be slightly biased towards black cats. Both my babies are a long-haired black and a short-haired white and black after all. I adopted them off the streets so…thgey are strays. Those two are some of the greatest blessings I have ever received.

Russian Blue

A sleepy Russian Blue.

They have stunning greenish eyes.

This grey and white cat breed that comes in colours varying from light shimmering silver to a darker, slate grey. They often develop close bonds with their owners and are sought out as pets due to their personalities, beauty and coat.

Honestly, I mean have you looked at this beauty? Their short and dense coat, which has been the hallmark of the Russian breed for more than a century, stands out from the body and one can draw patterns in the coat that will stay until one smoothes them out again. That means that you can draw funny things on them (gently of course).

They are also considered to be hypoallergenic, which I love as finally allergic cat owners can have some felines close to them. For some cat allergy and cat allergies articles, you can read those.

Balinese

An extraordinary Balinese cat.

Is it just me or are these cats getting prettier and cuter every single time?

First of all, the Balinese is a long-haired cat breed that resembles the Siamese. Both have a majorly white fur coat that ends in either creme, brown, or gray colouration. They are known as long-haired Siamese cats.

Furthermore, they have stunning sapphire blue eyes.

Similar to their Siamese ancestors, Balinese are sociable, vocal, playful, inquisitive, and an intelligent breed.

Additionally, they are also said to be notably acrobatic. They love spending time with their owners.

Japanese Bobtail

A Japanese Bobtail cat being cute.

This unique breed is …special. They come in a spectrum of colours, obviously including grey and white cat breeds. They have fluffy, bunny-like tails instead of long ones.

Also known as the stray cats of Japan, they are popular with tourists due to their docile and out-going behaviour.

They have a large range of vocals, from silent purrs to loud mews and chirps. They are described to have a song-like voice.

Japanese Bobtail´s are active and curious. They like playing with water, playing fetch or simply carrying toys around.

Last but not least, they are good with children and other pets (including dogs). Apparently they enjoy sitting on your shoulder (just like my one)and enjoy supervising from above.

Sphinx

Grey and white Sphinx
A Sphinx cat.

The Sphynx cat is unique in character and looks. Due to its hairless appearance, it has gained popularity with households that don’t like excess hair on their clothes which is understandable.

Furthermore, they are extremely friendly and simply adore cuddling their favourite people in the world (ie. You).

The only thing bigger than the sphinx eyes ( and heart of course) are their ears.

However, their ears are super sensitive-just like most other cats- so please take care around them.

They pretty much capture you in their golden disks and dont stop loving you anymore.

Tonkinese

A stunning Tonkinese cat.

This grey and white cat breed is the stunning result of crossbreeding between a Burmese and a Siamese.

Furthermore, they enjoy heights and do love a good game of fetch. They are described as having “dog-like” characters and a gentle purr, similar to that of their Burmese relatives.

Tonkinese cats always have different coat patterns,. This is thanks to their genetic variation. Additionally, it also means this beautiful breed comes in all stunning colours that a Burmese or Siamese would.

Last but not least, they are intelligent and people-oriented and a great choice for active families.

Cornish Rex

A grey and white Cornish Rex.

This intersting cat breed has a galloping run and is intelligent and curious. They tend to keep a kittenish nature throughout their entire lives, which is a great trait to have in a cat.

Due to their light coats, they like to stay indoors. dry and warm climates suit them the best. Often you might find one of those cuties curled up around heaters, computers or even your shoulders! This is done to preserve heat and keep themselves warm.

They have no hair except for down hair-unlike most other cat breeds. Despite some beliefs, Cornish Rex cats are NOT hypoallergenic.

Thoughts

Cats come in all shapes and colours and each one is unique and amazing in their own way. I am truly glad that the stigma against black cats has lifted over the years, and white and grey cat breeds aren’t seen as runts anymore.
