The Ministry of interior in Morocco has recently agreed to solve the country’s stray dog problem, and they have chosen Sterilization as the most humane option.
Unfortunately, their plan was no followed by all cities, and one city, in particular, has decided to follow a different path.
The city of Agadir has instead ordered its sanitation workers to round up the stray dogs and throw them into the local pond. That’s it. They decided to not give the dogs any food or water, and have left the dogs to starve to death.
This has led the dogs to go to their absolute last resort; eating each other to survive.
In the past, they used to solve the “stray dogs problem” with bullets and poisoned food, but after the pressure and changes they went through, they decided to tag the dogs, spay, and neuter them before releasing them back to their territories.
Unfortunately, many areas in the country are still using the previous barbaric methods to kill stray dogs, but this city has taken things to a whole new level of cruelty.
The famished dogs, some just puppies, have been tossed into an inhumane pound in Agadir and must eat the dead to survive.
Lucy Austin, founder of Morocco Animal Aid, and animal activist Morgan Hekking posted heartbreaking and graphic videos of the suffering dogs. Supposedly, the manager of the pound will not allow rescuers to feed the dogs, even when they provide the food.
While the videos are hard to watch as one shows a dog chewing on a deceased dog, they are necessary to save the remaining dogs. The emaciated dogs in the video are deprived of the bare necessities to live and something must be done.
The animal group aid posted on Facebook:
nternational news, but still no change for these dogs. They continue to kill and eat each other. The city piles them up in this death camp and still…..Their plight continues to be ignored. They die, everyday and still no one with power stands for them. What will it take? We are desperate. Please help us stop this. Share their story. Raise the flag for them. #FREETHEMOROCCANDOGS
