K-9 officers along with their dog partners play a major role in enforcing the law. Canine officers also have the additional duty of training and caring for their K-9 partners.
They have duties such as training their K-9 partners to detect illegal substances such as narcotics and explosives. They also train some of the dogs to track and search for suspects and then biting them and getting a hold of them.
Another duty for dogs with strong scenting abilities is to smell and track suspects either missing or dead people; each specializes in a specific area when searching for people.
So, you see, K-9 officers and their dog partners are very important and there have been many instances where they saved others lives.
