Jack Jokinen expected that this was going to be a restless night, surely their 1-month old daughter would wake them up in the middle of this stormy night.
However, when he was awoken up by 4 am, it wasn’t because of his daughter. Instead, his wife was standing over him, telling him that there was a strange dog in their living room.
He thought there must be some kind of misunderstanding going on, so he went downstairs to check.
No, there was no misunderstanding. In fact, there was a dog in their living dog. The dog was malnourished, wet, shaking, and very afraid.
The 34-year-old Jokinen had no idea how the dog went into the house. He was sure all doors and windows were shut, and when he checked, they were indeed locked.
Okay, so how did the dog get in? He had to look at the security footage to find out the secret.
It turns out, the dog limped down the sidewalk past his house and then went back to take a second look at the staircase leading to the home. It turns out, when Jokinen returned from walking George, their other dog, the previous night, he failed to make sure the door was locked behind him, and the wind had blown it open during the night.
The dog simply walked in to find warmth and hid in the house from the storm. 5 minutes later, a passerby noticed the wide-open door and yelled into the house to ask if someone is in there, when he got no response, he simply shut the door and walked away.
After some thinking, they decided against giving her up to animal control, and instead, decided to give the dog a home and welcome her into their family.
I guess everything does happen for a reason, huh.
