Dutch officials recalled 600,000 face masks that were manufactured in China because the masks did not meet the quality standards, said the health ministry.
This news shocked and terrified the frontline medical staff in the Netherlands because they are the ones who rely heavily on these high-quality masks to stay safe while helping COVID-19 patients.
This number of defective masks is half the shipment of the 1.3 million top-of-the-line face masks, which are known as N95 in the US and Hong Kong – has already been distributed to nurses and doctors who are treating Covid-19 patients, said the government.
N95 masks, which are also known as KN95 in mainland China and FFP2 in Europe, play such a critical role in health care.
Because these masks are supposed to block over 90 percent of the airborne particles that might be carrying the coronavirus.
