The recent fires in Australia have grabbed the world’s attention to the wildlife on the continent. Australia is one of the most diverse places on the planet when it comes to wildlife.
Unfortunately, the recent fires have killed more than 500 million animals, with some estimates say that even more animals will die in other ways (read more about that here).
The brilliant Idea
The major problem needed solving was that the animals that have survived the fires were still at risk since they had no food, so they could starve to death.
Titled “Operation Rock Wallaby” and led by the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service, aircrafts have dropped over 2,200 kilograms of fresh vegetables from the sky.
Here are the amazing pictures documenting the operation:
It’s worth noting that locals are doing their best to not only survive the fires but to also help the wildlife survive as well. With some feeding the animals, some fighting the fires, and some even opening their doors to shelter animals in their homes from the fires.
The fires are still raging in the continent but the country and the people are fighting back, find out how you can help here.
